The Manitoba Model Forest (MBMF) has a long history of working with the International Model Forest Network (IMFN) and individual international Model Forests. We have worked with the IMFN to help establish new Model Forests in Mexico, Russia, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines. We assisted in establishing programs with the Mariposa Monarca (Monarch Butterfly) Model Forest in Mexico, and in doing so, developed lasting relationships with the peoples of the area. As our work with the Monarch Butterfly Model Forest drew to a close, we facilitated the involvement of local First Nation communities in our international program in order to promote the sharing of indigenous culture and history. This exchange began with the Chiloe Model Forest in Chile and eventually led to the development of an indigenous tourism program with the Cabécar peoples of Costa Rica.
Over the years, the Manitoba Model Forest has benefited from the financial and in-kind support of numerous and funding partners. These include all levels of government (federal, provincial, municipal), industries, non-government organizations and individuals. Their generous contributions have greatly contributed to our success.
