One of the components of the scenario planning program is the development of a computer generated model, which animates forest development over time. The computer animation is still under development and will eventually be produced on a DVD for use as an educational tool in schools and interpretative programs.
The computer animation or visualization depicts the effects of a large wind storm in the Whiteshell Provincial Park that resulted in large sections of forest being blown down, a subsequent forest salvage harvest and the resultant forest regeneration and succession that will take place over time. The interactive, computer generated model, interspersed with photographs, will allow the user to “fly” over a geo-referenced portion of the blow down area at various points in time during forest succession. The computer visualization will assist in explaining forest growth and development from the initial stages of reforestation to the development of a mature forest.
